New Pittsburg barber offers new haircut experience
PITTSBURG—The Bearded Bully is a new barbershop in downtown Pittsburg. The shop’s owner, Heath Berry, has been cutting hair for nearly 20 years and has cut hair in four states.
The Bearded Bully’s original location is in Joplin, Missouri. Berry said he decided to open the location in Pittsburg because of demand and because the town was important to Barry’s wife, who played volleyball for Pittsburg State University years ago. The move to add a second store to the Pittsburg community just made sense.
Berry said he wants his customers to know they are getting a quality haircut, taking his time with each customer but also getting to know them as well. He said customers are treated as family. A whiskey bar inside the shop offers complimentary drinks and is Berry’s way of saying thank you to his customers.
Berry said he wants customers to immediately notice the environment created within his barber shop. It features decorations on theme with Pitt State’s gorilla mascot.
The Bearded Bully has two other barbers and hairstylists as well in the shop. One of which is Pittsburg native Neftali Ramirez, who says her mission as a stylist is to help her customers embrace their most confident selves. The other is Haven Bradbury.
Berry said he’s made it a priority that all barbers and stylists at his shop are able to cut all types, textures, and styles of hair. That’s important in a town with a university that attracts students, including athletes, from various cultural backgrounds.
